Identification of the bearer: Michail "Voda" Soutzos (1784-1864),prince of Moldavia
Historical Notice: Phanariote family, including four Grand Interpretaires and three Princes of Moldavia and Wallachia. This particular shield belongs to Michail "Voda" Soutzos, in his capacity as Prince of Moldavia (1818-1821), which explains why depicted here is the Moldavian coat-of-arms (bullock's head surmounted by a star), surrounded by the regional armories of various parts of that country.
