Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Γαλλικός φεουδαρχικός οίκος από το Λιμουζέν (Limousin). Ο εικονιζόμενος θυρεός του Μεγάλου Μαγίστρου του Τάγματος του Οσπιταλίου του Αγίου Ιωάννου της Ιερουσαλήμ, Pierre d' Aubusson, είναι τετραγωνισμένος, συνδυάζοντας το προσωπικό του οικόσημο (δεύτερο και τρίτο τετράγωνο) με τον εμβληματικό σταυρό του Τάγματος (πρώτο και τέταρτο τετράγωνο). Ο d' Aubusson έλαβε τον τίτλο του καρδιναλίου το 1489, και αυτός είναι ο λόγος που φέρει εκκλησιαστικό καπέλλο με δέκα θυσσάνους σε τέσσερις σειρές (αργότερα, οι σειρές θυσσάνων των καρδιναλίων αυξήθηκαν σε πέντε).

Historical Notice: French feudal house from Limousin. The arms of the Grand Master of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Pierre d' Aubusson presented here (second and third quarters), are combined with the cross (first and fourth quarters), crest of the Order. D' Aubusson was appointed cardinal in 1489, that is the reason why his coat-of-arms bears an cardinal's ecclesiastical hat with ten tassels on each side arranged in four rows of one, two, three and four (the number of rows of the cardinal's tassels was later set at five).
