Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Οίκος Βενετών πατρικίων με αξιοσημείωτη παρουσία στις ελληνικές θάλασσες, ο οποίος έδωσε, μεταξύ των άλλων, τρεις δούκες της Κρήτης (13ος και 14ος αι.), έναν Ιωαννίτη ιππότη, διοικητή των νήσων Κω, Καλύμνου, Λέρου και Νισύρου (15ος αι.) και έναν ρέκτορα Τήνου και Μυκόνου (15ος αι.). Ένας κλάδος της οικογένειας, καταγόμενος από τον τελευταίο, ηγεμόνευσε στη νησιώτικη κομητεία της Αστυπάλαιας (1413-1537) και της Αμοργού (1446-1537). Το εικονιζόμενο οικόσημο, που βρίσκεται στο Κάστρο της Αστυπάλαιας, ανήκει σε μέλος του τελευταίου αυτού κλάδου.

Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house with a notable presence on the Greek seas, including three dukes of Crete (13th and 14th c.), a knight hospitaller Fantino Querini, preceptor of the islands of Kos, Kalymnos, Leros and Nisyros (15th c.), and a rector of the islands Tinos and Mykonos (15th c.). A branch of the same family, issued from the latter, ruled for more than a century the insular county of Astypalaia (1413-1537), including also the island of Amorgos (1446-1537). This particular coat-of-arms, to be found in the Castle of Astypalaia, belongs to a member of that branch.
