Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Το γνωστό έμβλημα της Γαληνοτάτης Δημοκρατίας της Βενετίας: Ο πτερωτός λέων του Αγίου Μάρκου, ο οποίος εδώ βρίσκεται τοποθετημένος στα τείχη του Μυλοποτάμου, πιθανόν με την ευκαιρία οχυρωματικών εργασιών του έτους 1565. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι τα Κύθηρα διετέλεσαν υπό την εξουσία του βενετικού οίκου των Βενιέρη από τις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα έως το 1363 (με τη μεσολάβηση μιας βυζαντινής ανακατάκτησης, μεταξύ των ετών 1269-1309) και στη συνέχεια υπό την άμεση βενετική κυριαρχία έως το 1797 (εκτός από μια τετραετία οθωμανικής κατοχής, μεταξύ των ετών 1715-1719).

Historical Notice: Τhe well-known crest of the Most Serene Republic of Venice (the winged lion, symbol of Saint Mark), posed on the walls of Mylopotamo, perhaps during works of fortification carried out in 1565. Kythira was under Venetian rule from the early 13th century to 1797 (with brief intervals from 1269 to 1309 and from 1715 to 1719).
