Identification of the bearer: Alexandros Ypsilantis (1792-1828), revolutionnary and army officer
Historical Notice: Fanariote family, including three Grand Interpretaires, two Princes of Moldavia and Wallachia and two prominent figures of the Greek War of Independence, Alexandros and his brother Dimitrios. Alexandros was an officer in the Russian army when he assumed the leadership of the revolutionnary organization "Philiki Etaireia", whose emblems are depicted in this heraldic composition.
