Identification of the bearer: Daniele Barbarigo, Venetian duke of Crete (1562-1564)
Historical Notice: Venetian patrician family, including two doges of Venice (15th c.) and two dukes of Crete (16th c.). This particular coat-of-arms is part of a heraldic ensemble which was posed on the walls of Irakleio during the works of fortification carried out in 1565. Irakleio was under Venetian rule from the early 13th century to 1669.
