Identification of the bearer: Giovanni Battista degli Orsini, Grand Master (1467-1476) of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem
Historical Notice: Italian noble family from Rome, including three Roman Catholic Popes (12th, 13th and 18th c.), thirteen cardinals and various military and political personalities. This particular shield, placed on the walls of Rodos, next to the cross, emblem of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, belongs to the Grand Master Giovanni Battista degli Orsini.
