Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Οίκος Βενετών πατρικίων, ο οποίος έδωσε μεταξύ των άλλων ένα δόγη της Βενετίας (14ος αι.), δύο δούκες της Κρήτης (13ος αι.), καρδιναλίους της Ρωμαιοκαθολικής εκκλησίας και άλλους αξιωματούχους. Το εικονιζόμενο οικόσημο ανήκει στον Benetto Dolfin, που διετέλεσε Βενετός ρέκτωρ των Χανίων, μεταξύ των ετών 1594 και 1597, την περίοδο που πραγματοποιήθηκαν και οι οχυρωματικές εργασίες στο Φραγκοκάστελο.Υπενθυμίζεται ότι η Κρήτη διετέλεσε υπό βενετική κυριαρχία από τις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα έως το 1645 (1669 σε ό,τι αφορά το φρούριο του Χάνδακα).

Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house, including a doge of Venice (14th c.), two dukes of Crete (13th c.), cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church and various other officials. This particular coat-of-arms belongs to Benetto Dolfin, Venetian rettore of Chania (1594-1597), during the works of fortification carried out in Frangokastello (Castelfranco). The island of Crete was under Venetian rule from the early 13th century to 1645 (1669 in the case of the castle of Candia).
