Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Οίκος Βενετών πατρικίων, που έδωσε μεταξύ των άλλων ένα δόγη της Βενετίας (15ος αι.) και ένα δούκα της Κρήτης (17ος αι.). Το συγκεκριμένο οικόσημο, που έχει υποστεί σήμερα σοβαρή καταστροφή, αποτελεί τμήμα πενταμερούς σύνθεσης που τοποθετήθηκε στα τείχη του Ηρακλείου με την ευκαιρία οχυρωματικών εργασιών του έτους 1567. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι το Ηράκλειο διετέλεσε υπό βενετική κυριαρχία από τις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα έως το 1669.

Identification of the bearer: Lorenzo Marcello, Venetian counselor of the Signoria of Crete
Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house, including a doge of Venice (15th c.) and a duke of Crete (17th c.). This particular coat-of-arms, seriously damaged today, is part of a heraldic ensemble which was posed on the walls of Irakleio during the works of fortification carried out in 1565. Irakleio was under Venetian rule from the early 13th century to 1669.
