Historical Notice: This heraldic ensemble is to be found on the walls of Methoni. The Venetian lion of Saint Mark is accompanied by the coats-of-arms of two Venetian officials, the castellan Lorenzo Venier and its successor Nicolo Foscolo (see each coat-of-arms in particular). Methoni was under Venetian rule during two periods, from 1206 to 1500 and from 1686 to 1715.
