Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Κρητική αρχοντική οικογένεια, πιθανόν καταγόμενη από τους Φωκάδες, μια των 12 οικογενειών των αναφερομένων ως "Αρχοντόπουλων", ενδεχομένως βυζαντινής προέλευσης. Μέλη της πρωτοστάτησαν σε εξεγέρσεις κατά των Βενετών στην Κρήτη (13ος-14ος αι.), αργότερα όμως εντάχθηκαν στο σύστημα της βενετικής κυριαρχίας και τους αναγνωρίστηκε τίτλος βενετικής ευγενείας ("Nobili Veneti"). Απόγονοι της οικογένειας έλαβαν μέρος στην Επανάσταση του 1821, ανέλαβαν στρατιωτικά -κυρίως- αξιώματα στο Ελληνικό κράτος και πρωτοστάτησαν σε πολιτικούς και κοινωνικούς αγώνες (19ος-20ός αι.).

Historical Notice: Cretan noble family of alleged Byzantine origins (one of the 12 so-called "Archontopoula"). Its members played a leading role in revolts against the Venetians in Crete (13th-14th c.), but were later incorporated into the Venetian dominion system and received a title of Venetian nobility ("Nobili Veneti"). Descendents of the family participated in the Greek War of Independence, assumed -mainly military- offices in the Greek state and took an active part in various political and social struggles (19th-20th c.).
