Τo τοπίο του Σινά και η μονή στην παλαιότερη γνωστή χαλκογραφημένη απεικόνιση, πού τυπώθηκε το 1710 πιθανώς στη Βενετία. Ακολουθεί το εικονογραφικό πρότυπο της ξυλογραφίας του Νικόδημου του 1693, με άλλες όμως επιγραφές και με την προσθήκη ενός μεγάλου σταυρού με τον 'Εσταυρωμένο στο βάθος, ανάμεσα στις δύο ψηλότερες κορυφές. Κάτω δεξιά, στις εκβολές του Νείλου, υπάρχουν μικρά υδρόβια πουλιά, πιο χαμηλά ένα θαλάσσιο κήτος, ένας κροκόδειλος μέσα στο ποτάμι και λίγο πιο ψηλά τρία ελαφάκια. Η παράσταση έχει σχεδιαστεί με επιμέλεια από έμπειρο τεχνίτη, γνώστη της δυτικής τεχνοτροπίας. Τα εικονογραφικά στοιχεία έχουν χαραχτεί πολύ προσεκτικά με προοπτική βάθους και λεπτές φωτοσκιάσεις, οι ανθρώπινες μορφές εικονίζονται με φυσικές και εκφραστικές κινήσεις, τα οικοδομήματα με σωστή προοπτική, και με ιδιαίτερη χάρη έχουν σχεδιαστεί τα δέντρα του περιβολιού της μονής, καθώς και οι φοινικιές και τα κυπαρίσσια στο τοπίο.

Η Βάση δεδομένων «Τεκμήρια Ελληνικής Χαρτογραφίας», περιλαμβάνει το έργο ελλήνων σχεδιαστών και εκδοτών χαρτών από τον 15ο αιώνα έως το 1820. Η Βάση περιλαμβάνει χειρόγραφους και έντυπους χάρτες και άτλαντες, καθώς και νησολόγια. Τα έργα αυτά είναι άλλοτε αυτοτελή κι άλλοτε ένθετα σε γεωγραφικές, ιστορικές ή θρησκευτικές εκδόσεις. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίδεται στην έντυπη διάδοση των έργων των ελλήνων χαρτογράφων. Είναι προϊόν του Ερευνητικού Προγράμματος «Γεωγραφική Παιδεία και Ιστορία της Χαρτογραφίας», με επιστημονικό Υπεύθυνο τον Γιώργο Τόλια, Διευθυντή Ερευνών του ΙΝΕ/ΕΙΕ.

Τhe landscape of Sιna with the abbey in the older known engraved depiction, which was printed in 1710 probably in Venice. It follows the econografic model of woodcut of Nicodeme 1693, with other signs and with the addition of one big cross in the depth, between two tops. Under right, in the estuaries of Nile, small aquatic birds exist, a crocodile in the river and few tally three deers . The representation is drawn with assiduity by an experienced craftsman, in the westerner style. The academic ekonografic elements are engraved very carefully with prospect of depth and a thin darkness, the human forms are shown with natural and from phrasal moved, the buildings with right prospect, and with the charm have been drawn the trees of the garden of abbey, with trees and the cypresses in the landscape.

The database “Greek Cartography: the Documents” includes the cartographic work of Greek mapmakers and Greek publishers of maps and cartographic material from the 15th century to 1820. The database contains manuscript and printed maps, atlases and isolarii. The works are either independent either included in geographical, historical or religious editions. Special attention is given to the printing history of the Greek mapmakers’ production. It is a product of the Research Project “Geographical Culture and History of Cartography” supervised by Dr. George Tolias, Research Director INR/NHRF.
