Excerpt from original source: A novel feature in the Golden Horn, is the Floating-bridge by which it is spanned, and which has been constructed within the last three years...Two rather lofty arches admit the passage of small craft beneath the bridge, which is singularly elegant in its design; and a small toll is exacted from each passenger, horse, or carriage by which it is traversed. Many are the individuals who still, however, prefer the more uncertain and expensive mode of reaching the city through the medium of the caiques which ply between the two shores; and these are principally to be found among the women, who have a superstitious horror of all innovation, and who cling to their old habits and their old associations with a perseverance worthy of a better cause (116-117)
